At Zappoh! farming is done in the most natural and respectful way.
That means that we grow our saffron without chemicals of any sort: with no pre-implantation treatment of the bulbs and no fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides (and yes, we do pull up the weeds by hand – a real chore).
Apart from our own hands and a few tools, the bulbs and the rain do the rest of the job.
In other words, we follow more than rigorously the organic farming criteria, because we don’t even use the substances allowed in organic crop production (like copper).
Having said so, we chose from the beginning not to get the organic certification, especially because we like having a trusting relationship with the people who choose our products (and because we mind the substance, not the form).
